Ural Great Perm announced signing of American guard Darius Washington (188-G-85, college: Memphis) for the rest of the season. 23-year old player is coming to Russian team just in time for the EuroCup second qualification round and the games against FMP Zeleznik.

Washington arrives to Ural Great from Greek Aris Thessaloniki. He started last season in San Antonio Spurs but after 18 games he moved to D-league team Austing Toros. For those 18 NBA games Washington had 2.9 ppg and 1.1 rpg. His final destination last season was Aris, where he landed in January this year. He appeared in 9 Euroleague games averaging 10.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg and 3.1 apg. Washington also played 14 games in Greek A1 regular season adding 9.1 ppg, 2.7 rpg and 2.3 apg.

His digits in 3 play-off games were even better but Aris couldn't book a spot for Euroelague 08/09. In 2007 Darius Washington won two trophies with CEZ Basketball Nymburk (domestic league and National Cup). He helped his team with 12.8 ppg, 3.2 rpg and 3.1 apg for 26 games in just few months as he joined Nymburk in March 2007. Until that time he played for PAOK.

Washington came out from University of Memphis in 2006. In January this year he received Macedonian citizenship (FYROM).

With the projected arrival of Derrick Rose, DWash's minutes would have been cut dramatically and he would no longer be the team's floor leader. Even though he wasn't drafted, Dwash's leaving the Tigers at that time was probably a smart move because his stock would have gone down being in Rose's shadow. And, after all, he still made the NBA.
